When I did, I discovered they had ordered the dress 4 sizes smaller than I was. It seemed hopeless. They say that wedding dresses can be altered up to 4 sizes without changing the shape, design or even beading. Beyond 4 sizes, then the structure of the dress gets changed and you won't know what you'll get until it's done.

So there's the first key - if you have to alter it down or even up a size, it's still fine.

When I discovered that my dress was drastically small, I decided I wanted the corsetting in the back. My first alterations place wouldn't do it. Said it would change the structure. It didn't matter to me, though, if they destroyed it - it didn't fit so I either got it fixed or started over and I really liked the dress, so wanted to make it work.

The next tailor I went to would do it (but it cost a small fortune). It was GORGEOUS! It totally made that dress and then I was left with something that would shrink (or grow) with me. I had a lot of beading in the bodice of the dress and that busy effect you referred to - looked classy, actually, with the corset.

So, while this is a really late comment (I hope you don't mind) please don't let the dress get you down. You will look gorgeous in it, I believe, and it will all work out beautifully. And, for what it's worth, I think the corset idea is a good one to pursue. I got a lot of compliments, including from the dress designer, about what the corset did for the dress.LDswimshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16047339088972152520noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9003187612927546935.post-48131785723889702152010-05-08T15:24:10.696-07:002010-05-08T15:24:10.696-07:00July is a good month. They probably do not care at all when you got your dress, or what effort you put into the wedding! You are way over-thinking it. I remember doing the same thing. I just wish someone had told me to CHILL.

So I had my dress custom made by a designer in NY. Guess when he finished the dress? Oh, and the Bridesmaid dresses too. The morning of the wedding! Talk about stress!

Anyway, Linda is right, these dresses are made to be altered easily, so try not to sweat it. I'm sure you will look amazing - you are sooooo skinny!Genhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11414571860592267584noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9003187612927546935.post-60161392849629080062010-05-07T11:11:27.644-07:002010-05-07T11:11:27.644-07:00That is good to hear, Linda.

Generally wedding dresses are designed to be altered easily so it you get down a little it should be no problem. We moved about 3 months before our wedding so I had tons of stress with a new job, new city and didn't get it altered until like a month before - it still turned out great.Lindahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07045822533798781579noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9003187612927546935.post-56077136980513271032010-05-07T10:38:04.302-07:002010-05-07T10:38:04.302-07:00Can't wait to see the dress. But in the meantime rest easy, I bet you will not only fit into on your wedding day, but, will look stunning and your day will be magical!

On another note, OMG, I hear you. I can pack it away, too. What's more, I am getting hungry again. Not the little edge of hunger you get with a band, but, big ole hunger from before. So, even tho I can eat more than a bandster should be able to, I can't eat like days of yore, either and it puts me in a unique position of having to eat more often and be constantly trying to fit in meals with water. SUCKS. So I totally get what you're saying. Let's hope both our docs quit playing god and give us what we paid for.Brookehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12120886921730599132noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9003187612927546935.post-10090852422528558032010-05-07T09:26:26.094-07:002010-05-07T09:26:26.094-07:00I bought my dress 10 months before my wedding and ...I bought my dress 10 months before my wedding and 2 sizes too small - talk about stress. I think the up coming wedding will motivate you to stay on track. It did for me anyway. My alteration day was about one month before the wedding day, if that helps you. I'm sure you'll look stunning even if you don't lose a pound. Congratulations!Joeyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09238705965706714229noreply@blogger.com
